FULL TITLE:  Chipping Warden, Greens Norton and Kings Sutton Hundreds - Militia Ballot Lists 1762.

The bill which re-established the Militia was amended in 1762 so that all men aged between 18 and 45 years, with certain exceptions, were liable to be 'conscripted' into the Militia by ballot.  This booklet contains a transcription of the Militia Ballot Lists for the Northamptonshire Hundreds of Chipping Warden, Greens Norton and Kings Sutton compiled in November 1762.  Men are listed within their parish of residence by surname and christian name.  In most cases their occupation is included and in some cases there are notes regarding their eligibilty.  Chipping Warden Hundred consists of the parishes of Aston le Walls, Upper Boddington, Lower Boddington, Byfield, Chipping Warden, Edgcote, Eydon, Greatworth, Sulgrave and Woodford.  Greens Norton Hundred consists of the parishes of Adstone, Blakeley, Braden, Canons Ashby, Greens Norton, Maidford, Moreton Pinkney, Plumpton, Silverstone, Slapton, Weedon Lois and Whittlebury.  Kings Sutton Hundred consists of the parishes of Astwell, Aynho, Brackley, Chalcombe, Croughton, Culworth, Evenley, Farthinghoe, Helmdon, Hinton in the Hedges, Kings Sutton, Marston St. Lawrence, Middleton Cheney, Newbottle, Radstone, Steane, Stuchbury, Syresham, Thenford, Thorpe Mandeville, Wappenham, Warkworth and Whitfield.
