Titles relating to Oxfordshire or parts of Oxfordshire.

We've arranged our Oxfordshire titles into various categories, which can be seen listed beneath 'Oxfordshire Titles' to the right of this text. Some of our books cover more than one county and where this is the case the title appears in each relevant county section.

A few words about two of our more obscure categories:

Marriage Notices:

The Act which introduced civil registration in 1837 specified that any couple who were not marrying in the Church of England by banns or licence were to give notice of their intended marriage at their Local Register Office.  The Notice was then read out at three meetings of the Board of Guardians for the local Poor Law Union.  Information contained within each notice varies.  All include the names of the parties and many include their residence.  Some also give the condition and/or occupation of one or both parties and the church or chapel where the marriage was to be solemnized.

'People Of' Series:

These books contain transcriptions of a number of documents relevant to one particular place or parish.  The main documents to be found within the book are listed.
