FULL TITLE:  Cirencester Registration District - Marriage Notice Book Volume One - 1837-1856.

The Act which introduced civil registration in 1837 specified that any couple who were not marrying in the Church of England by banns or licence were to give notice of their intended marriage at their local Register Office.  This booklet contains a transcription of the entries of intended marriage notified to the Cirencester Registration District which included Ampney Crucis, Ampney St. Mary or Ashbrook, Ampney St. Peter or Easington, Badgington, Barnsley, Baunton, Brimpsfield, Cirencester, Coates, Colesbourne, Daglingworth, Down Ampney, Driffield, Duntisborne Abbotts, Duntisborne Rouse, Edgeworth, Elkstone, Fairford, Harnhill, Hatherop, Kempsford, Meysey Hampton, North Cerney, Poulton, Preston, Quenington, Rendcombe, Rodmarton, Sapperton, Siddington, Side or Syde, South Cerney, Stratton and Winstone [all Gloucestershire], and Kemble, Marston Meysey, Poole Keynes, Shorncote and Somerford Keynes [all Wiltshire].  Information contained within each notice includes the name, age, condition, occupation, residence and length of residency of each party together with the date the notice was given and the church or building in which the marriage was to be solemnised.  Most marriages, but by no means all, were to take place in nonconformist churches or chapels in the surrounding area.

FULL TITLE:  Chipping Campden Division Petty Sessions - Bastardy Cases 1844-1892.

This publication is a transcription of the Register of Applications for a Summons by a Woman after Birth 1856 to 1892.  This volume includes the date of the application, the name and residence of the mother, the name, residence and occupation of the putative father, and the sex and date of birth of the child.  In most cases the court proceedings have been written on the reverse of the application including testimony from the mother and witness statements.  Also included is a transcription of the Chipping Campden Division Bastardy Returns made to the Gloucestershire Quarter Sessions for the years 1844 to 1879 which give the name of the mother of a bastard child applying, date of issue of summons, date of Petty Sessions hearing, result of the application and the name of the putative father in all cases in which orders are made.  Applications are included from persons living in Admington, Aston sub Edge, Broad Campden, Broad Marston, Chipping Campden, Clifford Chambers, Cow Honeybourne, Dorsington, Ebrington, Hidcote Bartum, Hidcote Boyce, Long Marston, Marston Sicca, Mickleton, Pebworth, Quinton, Saintbury, Welford, Weston on Avon, Weston sub Edge and Willersey [all Gloucestershire] and Aston Magna, Blockley, Broadway and Paxford [all Worcestershire].

FULL TITLE:  Fairford Division Petty Sessions - Bastardy Cases 1844-1857.

This publication is a transcription of the 'Bastard Entry Book 1844-55' for Fairford Division Petty Sessions.  Each entry gives the name of the mother of a bastard child applying, date of issue of summons, date of Petty Sessions hearing, result of the application and the name of the putative father in all cases in which orders are made.  These are supplemented with the Bastardy Returns made to the Gloucestershire Quarter Sessions for the years 1856 and 1857 which give the same information.  Also included is the Register of Applications for a Summons by a Woman after Birth 1844 to 1852.  This volume includes the date of the application, the name and residence of the mother, the name and residence of the putative father, and the sex and date of birth of the child.  Sometimes the occupation of the putative father is also included.  In a number of cases the court proceedings have been written on the reverse of the application including testimony from the mother and witness statements.  Applications are included from persons living in Bibury, Coln St. Aldwyn, Eastleach Martin, Eastleach Turville, Fairford, Hatherop, Kempsford, Lechlade, Meysey Hampton, Quennington and Southrop [all Gloucestershire] and Poulton [Wiltshire].
